Dr. Hiroshi Nishyama publishes two articles in Journal of Neuroscience

Dr. Hiroshi Nishiyama has two research articles in press in the Journal of Neuroscience entitled: (1) “Dendritic translocation establishes the winner in cerebellar climbing fiber synapse elimination” and (2) “The long-term structural plasticity of cerebellar parallel fiber axons and its modulation by motor learning”.  The first study used an innovative, non-invasive vital imaging technique and visualized for the first time how redundant axonal inputs compete with each other during normal development in the intact mammalian brain.  The second study combined the non-invasive vital imaging technique with a motor learning task and revealed that ongoing structural changes (i.e., formation/elimination) of axon terminals are influenced by learning.
