Emma Robson was selected, by a vote of the Molecular and Cellular Cognition Society (MCCS) Council, as a 2022 MCCS Scholar!  Emma received this honor in recognition for the excellence of her presentation at the 2022 MCCS meeting.  Congratulations, Emma!

Margaret “Meg” Donahue was awarded an NIH F31 Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award (NRSA) entitled “Mechanisms underlying impaired hippocampal physiology in Fragile X Syndrome”.  Congratulations, Meg!

Congratulations, Destiny!

Congratulations to Destiny Okwubodu on her graduation from UT Austin!  Destiny received a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience.  She will continue working as a valuable member of our research team investigating neurophysiological deficits associated with a major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease as she prepares to apply for MD/PhD programs.

Congratulations to undergraduate researcher, Nicholas “Nick” Riveira, for his 2021 American Physiological Society Hearst Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship!  Nick presented the work from his fellowship at the Experimental Biology meeting where he won the 2022 Barbara A. Horwitz and John M. Horowitz Outstanding Undergraduate Abstract Award.  Congratulations, Nick!

Congratulations to Dr. Angel Lopez on her UT Austin Provost’s Early Career Cohort Fellowship Award!

Congratulations, Angel!  She was awarded the Provost’s Early Career Fellowship in Neuroscience at UT Austin to pursue her long-term research interest in understanding the mechanisms underlying psychiatric mood disorders and epilepsy.

Chenguang, Ernie, Carlos, and Laura publish a paper showing abnormalities in place cell sequences during error trials in a memory task

The work reveals novel insights about how hippocampal place cell dynamics differ during correct and incorrect memory performance.  The paper is available for download from:

Congratulations, Enrique!

Congratulations to Juan Enrique Villacres Perez on his graduation from UT Austin in May 2021.  Enrique received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and was awarded the highly competitive College of Natural Sciences Dean’s Honored Graduate Award.  He is continuing his work in the lab as he completes his combined BS/MSE degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Congratulations to Uzair Saleem!  Uzair graduated from UT Austin in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience.  Uzair will begin the Ph.D. Program at the UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Fall of 2021.

Congratulations, Dr. Hwaun!

On May 23, 2019, Ernie Hwaun successfully defended his PhD dissertation entitled, “MEMORY PROCESSING OF NOVEL EXPERIENCES IN THE HIPPOCAMPUS”.  Ernie is now a postdoctoral researcher in the Soltesz Lab at Stanford.  Congratulations, Ernie!
